The West Virginia High Technology Consortium (WVHTC) Foundation is located in the I-79 Technology Park in Fairmont. This location is favorable to establishing this test bed for several reasons:

  • Mountainous terrain with sparse population centers requires creative deployment to maximize coverage area.
  • Law enforcement and emergency response agencies in West Virginia work closely together across jurisdictional boundaries at all levels. Therefore, we have a "built-in" practitioner base for test and evaluation of new interoperable technologies and products.
  • Low population density leads to fewer interfering transceivers in the license exempt bands. Less interference in these bands enables operation in unlicensed frequencies in conjunction with licensed bands to maximize flexibility for testing and evaluation scenarios.
